Goal
The goal at the Public Works Department is to provide the public with prompt, courteous service in a timely fashion.
Build With Bags Program
In May, 2010, the City of Le Mars received a grant of $1,800 from the Build With Bags Program funded by the Iowa Grocery Industry Association. This program grants money to those communities that are extremely active in recycling programs.
The money was used for the purchase of 4 handicap accessible picnic tables to replace some of the old ones at the Municipal Park shelter house. These tables were all made from recycled plastic bags and other recycled plastics, which makes them very strong and durable. Since this recycling program has started 2 years ago the tons of recycled materials has grown from 200,000 tons to 600,000 tons.
Public Works would just like to thank the Build With Bags Program for their generous donation and the public at large for their superior efforts in recycling to make this grant happen. Another Thank You goes out to the Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club, for their donation of plants to the City of Le Mars. These plants will be planted in the Schafer Park Gardens to fill in some of the unoccupied areas.
