Trash/Recycling Pickup

Trash/recycling pick up is every other week. 
 View below as to which color tote will be picked up each week.
2023 Collection Calendar
 Trash/recycling will be picked up 1 day later than your usual pickup day on the following holidays:

  • News Years
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

 Magnets with each years schedule are available at the front desk of City Hall.

Recycling is Mandatory


 Recycling is mandatory for all residential and commercial customers please contact City Hall at 712-546-7018 if you have not received a blue recycle tote. Residents should notice a decrease in household trash as recycling increases. Do not place regular household trash in blue recycling totes!


Extra Trash & Recycling

Additional residential trash and recycling may be picked up for an additional fee of $10 by contacting Van’s Sanitation. The fee will be included on your monthly City billing statement.  Recycling Bins for excess cardboard and recycling are located in the parking lot behind Fire Station #1 on 1st Avenue SW.


Twig, Branch, & Grass Policy


The twig, branch, grass drop-off site is located behind the Riverview Ball Complex off Highway 3 West. The site will be monitored by staff.
 

Open April 1st through November 30th (weather permitting)
Saturdays - 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM 
 Wednesdays - 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM (1:00 -5:00 PM after Nov. 1st)
 

There will be no curbside pick-up of twigs and branches by the City. Only tree twigs, branches, grass and leaves may be dropped off at the site. If any other waste is mixed with the twigs, branches, grass, or leaves it will not be accepted. No tree stumps are allowed. No plastic bags or boxes will be allowed. The City will conduct cleanup of downed branches after major storms, as needed.
 
 Twigs, branches, and grass will also be accepted at the Plymouth County Landfill during normal operating hours.


Christmas Tree Disposal


 The City of Le Mars Public Works Department does not pick up live Christmas trees curbside. However, beginning December 30 through January 11 trees may be dropped off at the City's Twig, Branch and Grass Site located behind the River View Ball Complex off Highway 3 West.  The site will be open 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Remove all lights, plastic covers, tinsel, stands, and garland.
